    3. Very interesting post Tameka. Both Zach Marks and the ITE standards for teachers and students emphasize the understanding that content shared online can have a lasting impact. Even if you delete something, it may still exist in archives or be accessible to others who have seen or saved it. Being aware of how permanent digital actions are, makes people more deliberate about what they post, share, and do online. People should think about how something might affect them and others before sharing it. This entails considering the possible long-term effects on one's online reputation in addition to the possible emotional impact on others. "Think before you share" essentially encourages conscientious, moral, and responsible online conduct.

    4. Excellent post, and as you highlighted from the video that emphases on the impact of social media on individuals and how it influences them. Social media's impact on the mental health of young people is influenced by a wide range of intricate factors, such as how much time kids and teenagers spend on the platforms, what kinds of content they access or consume, the interactions and activities they can engage in on the platform, and the extent to which it interferes with vital health-promoting activities like sleep and exercise. Crucially, the ways in which social media influences children and adolescents vary depending on their unique vulnerabilities and strengths as well as historical, cultural, and socioeconomic contexts. As teachers we should try and education students as best as possible from an early age to use it in the proper way as outlined by ISTE standards.

    3. Cenier Smith - I share the same sentiments with you that cyberbullying is a critical aspect of digital citizenship. Digital citizenship education can help stop cyberbullying and its harmful effects in kids and teenagers. Children can use social media in constructive ways if they are taught positive online behavior. Teens go to their parents first for guidance on responsible internet use. In addition, there are numerous ways for parents to keep an eye on what their kids do online. For teenagers, teachers are their second-best source of information.1. When it comes to teaching digital citizenship skills like digital safety and etiquette, parents and teachers are equally important.

  5. In this enlightening YouTube video, Zach Marks explores the profound effects of social media on our lives and stresses the significance of acting responsibly online. Important topics including controlling our digital imprint, guaranteeing online safety, and stopping cyberbullying are covered in the conversation. The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Students and Teachers and Marks' observations align since both groups are dedicated to promoting the safe, responsible, and productive use of technology in the classroom.
A common theme in Marks' talk is the idea of a digital footprint, or the permanent record of our online actions. This is consistent with the emphasis on digital citizenship in the ISTE Standard for Students. Marks emphasizes how important it is to comprehend the consequences of our online presence, a point that is supported by ISTE's recommendation that students develop positive digital personas and behave responsibly online.
The important topic of internet safety is also covered in the film, which advises viewers to use caution and vigilance when using digital platforms. This is in line with the ISTE Standards for Teachers, especially with regard to the Digital Citizen area. It is the responsibility of educators to give their pupils the tools they need to securely browse the internet. By highlighting the joint accountability of parents, teachers, and students in fostering a safe online environment, Marks' observations enhance this norm.

  6. Did you know that the responsible, ethical, and respectful use of technology and the internet is referred to as digital citizenship? As our lives grow more connected with digital platforms, cultivating a sense of digital citizenship becomes increasingly important. It comprises a wide range of concepts and practices that enable people to interact positively and constructively with digital spaces (What Is Digital Citizenship? n.d.). Digital citizenship involves practicing good online etiquette, respecting the rights and privacy of others, and contributing positively to online communities. This concept extends beyond merely understanding how to use digital tools; it involves being a conscientious and informed participant in the digital world.
YouTube video by Zach Marks on digital citizenship and its integration with the ISTE Standards for Students and Teachers. It underlines social media's transformative power, emphasizing the dual nature of its influence on individuals. Mark's emphasis on life-changing consequences is effectively defined, as is the focus of the ISTE Standards on establishing and managing digital identity. Furthermore, recognizing educators' role in demonstrating ethical technology use aligns with the ISTE Standards for Teachers. The balanced viewpoint, which recognizes the video as one viewpoint within the larger context of digital citizenship, adds complexity to the study. Zach Mark's video on digital citizenship is likely to touch on some of these important points, providing insights into practical techniques for both students and teachers. It could talk about the necessity of creating a positive online culture, dealing with challenges like cyberbullying and plagiarism, and encouraging critical thinking in the digital arena.
In conclusion, the incorporation of digital citizenship connects smoothly with the ISTE Standards, emphasizing the importance of equipping students to be responsible, ethical, and empowered digital citizens and encouraging educators to model these behaviors in their teaching practices.

    1. Tek Tok Dis, In terms of digital citizenship, developing and maintaining one's online persona as well as understanding the lasting effects of decisions made is important. The notion inspires people to make thoughtful choices about the content they produce and distribute, to be considerate of others, and to positively contribute to online communities. Ensuring a secure and courteous online environment for all users is imperative. As Zach Marks would say, “T.H.I.N.K, is it true, is it helpful, is it inspiring, is it necessary or is it kind?” It is important to maintain one’s reputation especially while online. Your reputation is the opinions or judgments that others form about you based on your actions, behavior, or online presence. In the digital context, this involves being aware of the potential impact of your online activities and making good choices that align with your values and the image you want to project.

  7. According to the youtube video by Zach Marks (2015) entitled : Digital citizenship and you, he looked at different effects of social media and how it can change a person's life whether positively or negatively. He also gave us insights on how to be safer and smarter online in this digital age. According to the ISTE standard (2016), Students are referred to as Digital Citizens where they should recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal and ethical. In this digital age, one is oftentimes prone to different cyber attacks which can be hard for many individuals and some leading to their demise. So in other words, in order for one to escape effects like cyberbullying, hacking and releasing too much information, both students and teacher alike should:
    a. Cultivate and manage their digital identity and reputation and are aware of the permanence of their actions in the digital world.
    b. Engage in positive, safe, legal and ethical behavior when using technology, including social interactions online or when using networked devices.
c.Demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the rights and obligations of using and sharing intellectual property.
    d. Manage their personal data to maintain digital privacy and security and are aware of data-collection technology used to track their navigation online.

In relation to educators, they too are victims of cyber attacks but can be digital citizens as well. Educators can use technology to increase equity, inclusion, and digital citizenship practices. Education leaders must:
    a. Ensure all students have skilled teachers who actively use technology to meet student learning needs.
    b. Ensure all students have access to the technology and connectivity necessary to participate in authentic and engaging learning opportunities.
    c. Model digital citizenship by critically evaluating online resources, engaging in civil discourse online and using digital tools to contribute to positive social change.
    d. Cultivate responsible online behavior, including the safe, ethical and legal use of technology.

One must bear in mind that when it comes to technology and what one post can always leave digital footprints and this is pretty much everything that one does via the internet. However, in all things one must:
    T - is that true
    H- is it helpful
    I- is it inspiring
    N- is it necessary
K- is it kind………… think before you post and consider others

    Regards,

    1. I like this post. I have watched Zach Mark’s video on Digital Citizenship too. He is a very cool guy. The term Digital Citizenship refers to the responsible and ethical use of technology, particularly the Internet. I zoomed in on your statement that, to refrain from being a victim of cyberbullying or hacking online users should “Cultivate and manage their digital identity and reputation and be aware of the permanence of their actions in the digital world.” I approve of this statement as many times we are the ones who set up ourselves to be targeted online. The term cultivate in this context, implies actively shaping and developing one's online presence. It involves being mindful of the information you share, the tone you use, and the overall image you project on digital platforms. Controlling and maintaining your identity whilst online includes regularly updating information, using privacy settings appropriately, and representing oneself positively and authentically.

    2. Tech-TonicsGNB - Great point made about managing personal data to maintain digital privacy and security and are aware of data-collection technology used to track their navigation online. It is unknown to a lot of users that some website or links they click on collect and store data that can be used by third parties. Children are vulnerable when it comes on to this and therefore should be educated from an early age not to click on all links or go on every websites. For those who are not yet at the developmental age should be monitored by parents where they can block certain apps on the device that they are using.

  8. As cited in Fernández-Prados, Lozano-Díaz, & Ainz-Galende (2021), “the concept of digital citizenship has evolved from one of the first definitions of digital citizenship written by Ribble and Bailey which focused on technological aspects and digital competencies.” In this 21st century digital citizenship is of paramount importance. Zach Marks in his video states, “Every time we are on the internet we leave behind a digital footprint.” He highlighted that these digital footprints will remain forever. Everything we post, comment on, or participate in while online becomes a part of our digital footprint for the world to view. I agree with Zach's views hence as an educator I have a responsibility to help our students become aware of such. The ISTE standards have made provision for teachers and students as it relates to digital citizenship. According to the ITSE Standards for Students and Teachers, students are expected to understand the rights and responsibilities in the digital world including issues related to privacy, intellectual property, and appropriate use of technology. They should practice safe and healthy online behavior, understand the potential risks, and take measures to protect themselves and others. Students should understand and respect digital etiquette which requires them to be respectful and mindful of others in online communication and collaboration. In addition, students should be able to effectively manage and protect their personal information online, understanding the implications of sharing information on digital platforms. Zach shared that by using privacy settings, using nicknames for profiles, declining unknown friend requests, and not sharing personal passwords or usernames we can protect our identity online. The goal of the Digital Citizen standard is to empower students to be responsible and ethical users of technology, fostering a sense of digital citizenship that extends beyond the classroom and into their online interactions and activities. It emphasizes the development of critical thinking skills and the ability to make informed and ethical decisions in the digital age.

  9. Digital Citizenship and You, by Zach Marks is informative about the use of technology which also aligns with ISTE standards. He advised to use the internet for research, assignments, games or shopping. As he mentioned whenever you use the internet, you leave behind a trail of information known as your digital footprint. A digital footprint grows in many ways – for example, posting on social media, subscribing to a newsletter, leaving an online review, or shopping online. These things done on the internet follows you for the rest of your life.
Zach encourage to protect personal information by using nicknames instead of your real name, use trusted cites and do not accept request from people you do not know. This aligns with the ISTE Standard for Students' emphasis on digital citizenship. ISTE's advice that students create positive digital personas and behave responsibly online supports Marks' emphasis on the significance of understanding the implications of our online presence.
The movie also addresses the crucial subject of internet safety, advising viewers to use caution and vigilance when utilizing digital platforms. Specifically in the area of Digital Citizenship, this aligns with the ISTE Standards for Teachers. It is the duty of educators to provide their students with the resources they require in order to browse the internet safely. Additionally, the discussion surrounding cyberbullying highlights the significance of having a supportive and caring online community. Employers can check their potential employees’ digital footprints, particularly their social media, before making hiring decisions. Colleges and universities can check their prospective students’ digital footprints before accepting them too (Nordli, 2022).
To add to digital footprint they are two types which are Active footprint is when a user intentionally shares information about themselves while active footprint is when information is collected about a user which is unknown to them.
